Killing of withdrawing Ukrainian troops after a promised 'green corridor' at Ilovaisk
As encircled Ukrainian troops withdrew from Ilovaisk on 29 August 2014 under a promised safe-passage 'green corridor', Russian and Russia-backed forces ambushed the retreating columns. Official Ukrainian data record 366 servicemen killed, 429 wounded, 128 captured and 158 missing. Moscow denies its regular forces were present, though extensive evidence contradicts this.

In late August 2014, Ukrainian forces retreating from Ilovaisk under a negotiated safe-passage agreement were ambushed by Russian regular forces and separatist fighters, resulting in mass casualties. OSCE and human rights groups documented summary killings of captured and wounded servicemen.
